The 142 meter long and seven-storey high Sunborn Gibralter is the world’s first super yacht that functions as a casino and a hotel as well. Favoured by football stars, pop-stars and reality TV stars, the yacht is also accessible for those of us who are not on the A List, with a total of 189 rooms, starting from around $233 a night. The hotel has been given a five star rating and is complemented by a spa and fitness centre, an array of cocktail lounges and bars, a grand ballroom and a fine-dining restaurant.
The floating hedonist retreat opened in March 2014, with the cost of construction at an astounding 150 million euros, and is moored just in front of the legendary Rock of Gibraltar. 90% of the rooms on board have a sea view, and the majority also have a private balcony or terrace, a personal minibar, a large bathroom and 24-hour room service. Since the yacht doesn’t actually sail anywhere (regardless of the enormous engine and captain’s deck), the guests can help themselves to a host of activities on-land, from wine-tasting to golfing, and the concierge is always ready to arrange a private jet, helicopter or chauffeured car for those who have the need (or desire).
Perhaps the most attractive feature for leisure seekers, however, is the state-of-the-art casino on board. Those craving a few Free spins, a round of poker or a seat at the roulette table, all while enjoying some beautiful ocean views, need look no further. There are an array of slot machines, table games and private suites for VIPs, all open until 4am every day, which have attracted big spenders from all over the world since the casino first opened it’s doors on board the Sunborn Gibraltar.
With a sister yacht in London and plans to expand the chain as far as the Middle East and Russia, we’ll soon be spoilt for choice of relaxing super yacht getaways.
